"Ecce Homo"
This is an icon-inspired artwork depicting Our Lord during the passion. He is wearing a crown of thorns and a robe, which were used by the soldiers to mock Him. In the iconographic tradition, only Jesus Christ is given the cruciform halo. You can see a partial cross inside the halo made of single and double lines. These point to him having both a divine and human nature, hypostatically united. Within the halo are the Greek letters from the Septuagint translation of Exodus 3, where God reveals himself in the burning bush. These letters translate to "I am who am" in Hebrew. (acrylic and rust from San Sebastian Basilica on wooden board, 2025)
"Trinity"
Based on a monochrome print in a Roman Missal, this image shows the unique involvement of each person of the Blessed Trinity in the Holy Mass. As the eternal high priest and victim, Jesus offers himself to the Father, while the active cooperation of the Holy Spirit takes place during transubstantiation. Around them are angels, symbolic of the heavenly host who are in constant act of worship and praise during this liturgy. (acrylic and rust from San Sebastian Basilica on canvas, 2020)
"Good Shepherd"
This piece was used as the model for the large scale mosaic of the Good Shepherd on the wall behind the altar inside the main chapel of Luzon's oldest seminary, The Immaculate Conception School of Theology Regional Seminary in Vigan City. The artist worked closely with Fr Emmanuel Quintos, who was the Seminary Formator and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Theology during the execution of the project. There are many elements included in this piece that point to sacrifice and symbols used during mass--from the motif of grapes and wheat on the robes worn by our Lord to the to the lamb on his shoulders and blood trickling down from his feet. Jesus, as high priest, is also seen inside a mandorla--an almond shaped form used to symbolize divinity and signify the intersection of heaven and earth. (acrylic and Oil on Canvas, 2022)
"Our Lady of the Sign"
Another icon-inspired painting, this composition belongs to one of three categories of depictions of Our Lady as Mother of God, or "Theotokos". In iconographic tradition, the relationship of Mary to her child--created matter to uncreated matter--can be seen in three different types of icons: "Tenderness", "She who leads the way" and "The Sign". In this composition, Mary is truly Queen of the Heavens as she holds within her womb, the Logos Emmanuel, creator of all. She is depicted with her hands in an orans posture, which shows her both in contemplation and in intercessory prayer for mankind. It is because of this ineffable privilege that she is able to intercede for us. (acrylic and rust from San Sebastian Basilica on canvas, 2021)
